Shimano Alfine Pink Ribbon Fundraiser - Bicycle Descriptions and Builder Quotes
Ellsworth Handcrafted Bicycles – Roxy bicycle
“Every one of us is affected by cancer. My aunt battled it this year and members of my staff have family members facing these challenges. I look forward to a world where we can all enjoy the health we dream of. Until that day, Ellsworth wants to do more than just hope and imagine. We want to be part of the cure.”
-Tony Ellsworth, president and founder of Ellsworth Handcrafted Bicycles. Ellsworth created the Roxy bicycle.
This is a one of a kind, first article of our new commuter bike, and “Artist Proof”. It’s been in development for over a year, the very special “rose petal” finish is applied by hand, in the medium of anodizing, and the logo’s and project pink identification is applied with a surgical laser, right here in Portland Oregon. Her name is Roxy. Her mission is to be eye catching enough to make everyone want to ride a bike again, for health, for a cure, for fun. But her looks are more then skin deep—she’s equipped with geometry that will make the most of your energy, and technology and performance in the package that will reward make you come back for more—it’s a great riding bike—worthy of the Ellsworth name.Roxy’s design is based on the Popular Science Best of What’s New award winning RIDE frame. Ellsworth Handcrafted Bicycles, USA, is committed to Socially Responsible business practices and environmental stewardship. Ellsworth designs and builds the best bikes in the world, and invites everyone to Ride and Know the difference the attention to detail makes in the performance of their handmade bicycles.
This will be our third year of our own PROJECT PINK—where we donate $50 per pink bike to the Marsha Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer Research and the Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer Foundation. We’re a small company, but we feel if we can encourage larger companies to make the same commitment to social responsibility, and really put the money where the mouth is with regard to women’s cycling - we’ll initiate a ripple in a pond that will have far reaching positive affects.

Rock Lobster Bicycles – Custom Alfie bicycle
“Once I learned about the scope of this project, I knew that it would be a successful fundraiser. Cancer has taken friends and family members so I am keenly aware of the need for more awareness and research.”
-Paul Sadoff – founder, Rock Lobster Bicycles
The bike is my "Alfie' model that is built around the Alfine component group that was built in a late '40's Schwinn style. The frame should fit riders in the 5'7"-5'10" range, a typical mid-size bike size. This bike took the better part of four days of shop time to complete.

Sycip Designs – Java Girl bicycle
“We got involved in this project for the cause itself. We have some friends and know friends of friends who have cancer and it’s a horrible disease. So anything we can do to raise awareness, and make a difference is a good thing.”
-Jeremy Sycip, co-founder, Sycip Designs. Sycip created the Java Girl bicycle.
The Java Girl cruiser bicycle that pays homage to the beautiful turn-of-the century European commuter bikes as well as the American cruisers of yesteryear. The Java Girl is the finest of cruisers, capable of maneuvering around city buses and stray pedestrians with ease. It allows you to bust your move in style by mixing the speed and quickness of a road bike with the upright comfort and adaptability of a fine English touring bike. It’s all about the way you like your Java.

Torelli Bicycle Company – Custom lifestyle bicycle
“With this project, we saw the opportunity to help others utilizing the resources with which we have been blessed. And, as a husband and a father of two girls, I want those dearest to me to have every chance to live a long and fulfilling life. These items, coupled with the fact that cancer effects each and every one of us made us take a look at the opportunity and ask why not.”
As our product manager, and chief designer of the bike, Christian Feldhake knew that the functionality would be just as important as the beauty. The vision stemmed from a picture on Christian's screensaver that depicted a lovely Dutch woman sitting on steps next to a canal with her stylish bike sitting next to her. How that translated into the bike was to have a classic Dutch commuter style while leveraging current technology, design and functionality. While the frame was critically important, the build and accessorizing was just as key. The vision was to have it be something that was not just beautiful, but be something that was extremely functional; as a machine should be. Size specifications include a 53.5cm seat tube with a 54.5cm virtual top tube length and seat and head tube angles of 70.5 degrees.
The bike was designed by Christian at Torelli. Instead of building the frame in Italy with our other steel frames, we leveraged our relationship with nationally renowned frame builder Russ Denny. We chose to have Russ build the frame because of his great talent and our ability to modify as we go given the fact that we are designing and building at the same time with the new Shimano Alfine component group. We had to be prepared to deal with any idiosyncrasies that popped up. The frame was painted by master painter Jim Allen of The Cyclesmiths in Ranchita, California, the exclusive painter for all Torelli steel frames. The final build and accessorizing of the bike was done back at Torelli by Christian.
